The Waitaki passing the Stirling Point Signal Station at the entrance to Bluff Harbour. One of three Camit class vessels built by Tohuku Zosen in 1972 for Maritime Carriers (NZ) Ltd, who placed them on 10 year charters to Union SS Company, Waitaki sailing as Union Australia while on charter. Union Company had the option to terminate the charters after 5 years, which they exercised, and thereafter she traded as Waitaki until sold to Filipino owners in 1985 and renamed Gopher. |
