RMS QUEEN ELIZABETH 2 (QE2), 293,5m/ 65.863gt/ 28,5kn; 04/1969 completed by John Brown & Co., Clydebank, for Cunard Line, Liverpool; 12/05/1982 requisitioned by government for Falklands war as a troop transport, she started sail for St. George with 3.000 troops onboard. 11/06/1962 she arrived safely back in Southampton; 10/1986 starts in Germany on the conversion from steam to diesel engines; 07/08/1992 hits uncharted rocks off Vineyard Sound, Massachusetts; 1996 following the sale of the Trafalgar House to Kvaerner, Cunard Line ownership was transferred to Norwegian shipbuilding company; 06/1998 Kvaerner sell Cunard Line to the American owned Carnival Corporation & plc; 04/2004 QE2 completed a tandem crossing of the Atlantic with new QM2; 27/11/2008 QE2 was officially handed over from Cunard Line to new ownership Nakheel and berthed presently in port Rashid, Dubai, as and floating hotel.
