The busy yard seen here in July 1963 with ESSO DEUTSCHLAND leaving for sea trials while her sister ESSO BAYERN is still under contruction on the right slipway.

The yard was established 1909 as Vulcan-Werke Hamburg und Stettin, 1968 merged with Deutsche Werft Hamburg-Finkenwerder and Kieler Howaldtswerke into HDW. The Hamburg yard closed 1983 after having built many famous ships like Imperator and Tina Onassis.
