British pass/cargo liner HILDEBRAND (3), imo 1185422/ 133m/ 7.735gt/ 15kn; 12/12/1951 completed by Cammel Laird & Co., Ltd., Birkenhead, for Booth Steamship Co., Ltd., Liverpool; 28/12/1951 sailed on her maiden voyage from Liverpool, Leixões, Lisbon, Pará, Manaus; 1953 represented Booth Line at coronation Spithead Revue; 24/09/1957 arrived off Leixôes with 164 passengers in transit for Lisbon, Trinidad, Pará and Amazon river, but owing to thick fog, captain decided cancel the call and proceed for Lisbon; 25/09/1957 she ran aground in thick fog at Oitavos, north Cascais bay, outside Lisbon, which she was entering to disembark 17 short cruise passengers. In the following days the salvage tugs HERAKLES and EM. Z. SVITZER tried to save her, unfortunately no success; 28/10/1957 she was declared a total constructive loss and meanwhile she was destroyed by sea action. Sister ship HUBERT (4).
