Portuguese steamer CASSEQUEL, imo 5601717/ 122m/ 4.751gt/ 10kn; 1901 completed by William Gray & Co., Ltd, West Hartlepool, as NUMANTIA for Hamburg Amerika Linie, Hamburg; 1914 NUMANTIA, interned at Mormug?o, Portuguese territory of Goa, due to the outbreak of WWl, 1916 NUMANTIA, requisioneted and meanwhile seized by Portuguese Government; 1916 PANGIM, TME-Transportes Maritimos do Estado, state company, Lisbon; 1925 PANGIM, D. Barbosa, Lisbon; 1926 CASSEQUEL, Companhia Colonial de Navega??o, Lisbon; 1933 CASSEQUEL, on voyage Angola to S?o Thom? Islands, got fire and her second mast was destroyed. Arrived Lisbon with her own power she was docked at CUF Shipyard for major repairs and the removed mast was replaced by two posts; 14/12/1941 CASSEQUEL, torpedoed and sunken by U108, korvettenKaptan Klaus Scholz, off 250 nm SW of Cape St. Vincent, despite showing her neutral colours and lights. Only after two days 13 crewmembers were picked up by HMT CHAMPION and landed at Gibraltar, however 24 crew and 7 passengers were rescued by Portuguese steamer MARIA AM?LIA in transit Lisbon / Funchal.
