RANGATIRA |
One of the most graceful and popular vessels belonging to the Union Steam Ship Co, NZ, Ltd was the RANGATIRA. The vessel was built in 1931 by Vickers Armstrongs Ltd, Barrow-in- Furness for the companys Wellington - Lyttelton service. Able to steam at 22 knots she did the journey from Lyttelton - Wellington in 8 hour and 8 minutes in April 1939 - the fastest time for any of the Steamer Express vessels. She is seen here departing Wellington. RANGATIRA was in the Union Co fleet until 1967. |
