The Timaru fishing vessels MORAY ROSE and the CRAIGEWAN return to port after looking for survivors from the ill-fated HOLMGLEN which foundered with all hands on 24 November 1959 off the coast off Timaru. The CRAIGEWAN recovered one of the two bodies found after the tragedy..About 5 years ago divers went down to the wreck and found it to still be intact and with hatches in place and no obvious hull damage. The vessel did not have the reputation of being a good seaboat and it was thought she was overwhelmed by a extra large following sea. The ship was carrying a large amount of deck cargo at the time.
